When The Barnes Museum opened in a new building in downtown Philadelphia in 2012, many had predicted a cultural disaster. Despite precedent, protest and lawsuits, architects Billie Tsien and Tod Williams achieved the near-impossible: a relocated Barnes that remains an authentic Barnes. In this lecture, art historian Jeff Mishur discusses the new museum and its great collections of Impressionism, Post-Impressionism and Early 20th Century Art. Mishur also recounts the story of the collection’s founder, Dr. Albert Barnes, and how his attempt to control a priceless art collection from the grave could not withstand powerful civic and legal forces that had other plans. **REGISTRATION REQUIRED.**
