PROGRAM WILL BE HELD AT THE HOFFMAN ESTATES VILLAGE HALL, 1900 Hassell Road, Hoffman Estates. Register for this FREE EVENT by MAY 13th by calling Sue at 847.781.2606 (Hoffman Estates Village Hall).

The Village of Hoffman Estates Celebrations and Sister Cities Commissions, in conjunction with the Schaumburg Township District Library, invite the community to attend a program featuring Annette Baldwin's living-history portrayal of Coco Chanel.

Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel (1883-1971) was not only the most influential designer of the 20th century, she was one of the most influential women of all time. Ninety years after Coco Chanel advocated that women should be comfortable in their clothes, yet elegant and sophisticated, her theories remain as the underpinning of current style. Come hear Annette Baldwin bring Coco Chanel to life!

On being made a full length movie before even reading t his novel, i knew i had to really delve into this book quickly and completely. It's really good although i found it to be a little boring at times and just couldn't wait to get on with it! Pretty good book, but not the best thing I've ever read. It'll bass.

[[ Movie: "Elysium"]]

The movie did not lack in action and dramatic sequences nor visceral or artful cinematography, however such sequences probably contributed to how I did not feel much connection to the story and moral lesson that was presented. The focus would be on the dramatic elements of a tense moment, move through the action and progress scenes with less focus, and repeat. As a result, the story feels like it's been told in patchwork instead of a smooth flow from weaving the main character's struggles as he progresses.

Nonetheless, the movie was not without merit. I liked that the person whose actions would eventually shake the foundation of society in the movie was an average person. Throughout the movie, the viewers are introduced to a cunning woman seeking presidency, a resourceful man with the means to reach the off-limits utopia of Elysium, and a battle-hardened secret operative. By contrast, the main character, Max, worked a menial job and was trying to move forward from a criminal record. As he progresses, he is shown to lack foresight regarding the consequences of his actions (although it could be said that consequences in general have not been the main focus of the movie) and until the end focused mostly on his own well-being and survival save for a few exceptions. Yet despite his flaws, his will and unflappable determination was the necessary piece to accomplish what the others have tried to do, from a change in regime to actually reaching Elysium.

Overall, I considered the movie passable with unfulfilled potential.
