At age 52, Chicago banker Charles Dawes pulled a few strings to join the 17th Engineers, and was appointed General Purchasing Agent for the AEF in France. When 60,000 horses were needed to pull artillary, Dawes found them by using smugglers to bring them in from Spain. Railroad ties were found in Portugal, and engines in Belgium. For his service, five governments awarded him high honors. Equipped with photos and maps, R.J. Lindsey takes on the persona of Charles Dawes, who speaks about the politics and alliances of the world that exploded into the maelstrom of World War I. **REGISTRATION REQUIRED.**

The Giver by Lois Lowry. Definitely worth a re-read before the movie is released this summer.

Shadow Spell by Nora Roberts is the 2nd book in a trilogy that takes place in Ireland involving modern day witches trying to rid the world of evil that began many years ago with their ancestors. Typical Roberts pairing of characters and somewhat predictable, but an overall enjoyable entertaining light read.
